I have heard many of my fellow creators question the future of scrapbooking, wondering if this amazing hobby of ours has a future. My response is this, it is up to us to reach out and inspire future scrapbookers. We are the leaders and should do our best to share our beloved craft with the younger generation. To practice what I preach, I am teaching my daughter to scrap along beside me.
My 12 year old , Chloe, and I are scrapbooking together using this lovely sketch created by Heather Little and shared on the My Little Scrapbook Store Facebook Page:
I chose this sketch for two reasons: it is a simple design without the distractions of embellishments and it very clearly shows each piece. That makes this a brilliant choice for her and I to use! Chloe is a beginner and I want her to have confidence in creating her pages, so by starting with a simple design, she is less likely to get overwhelmed and frustrated.
She really enjoyed making this layout and was very excited to share her thoughts on it and the journaling story she added at the end. Be sure to check out our video at the end to share in her excitement!
When creating my version of this sketch, I was interested in seeing how I could modify it. That way, I could challenge myself to make this design my own style. I also chose to do a 9×12 layout for another variation on the sketch. Here is my layout:
We always enjoy scrapping together and I’m so glad she wanted to share that experience with all of you! Below is the process video for both layouts:
