“My Blessings” ~ Mother’s Day Layout

These pictures are from May 2012 and feature my sweet family and the presents they lovingly made and gave to me.  I started the layout wanting to try a burst of butterflies flying off the page, so that was really the only plan I had going into it.  I used my DIY Kit for October that I created myself and I had a really hard time stopping myself from adding more and more to this layout!  Have you ever had a page like that?  Just couldn’t stop myself.

I fussy cut out all of these beautiful butterflies from the Pink Paislee paper.  A few are punched from the floral paper as well, to add some variety.  I used my pale gold and white Nuvo drops to create bodies/heads for some of the butterflies and only adhered them in the center, so I could fluff their wings up.

These star stickers are from the Turn the Page Chipboard Thickers and the smaller ones are enamel shape stickers from my stash.  Not sure what prompted me to add these to my layout, but I do like the trail they make along the side.  The design element/border on the left side of the layout was made with Kiwi Lane templates and papers from my kit.  In retrospect, I probably should have toned down the paper choices there.

This larger flower is one of my DIY embellishments that I keep in a bowl on my desk and I added 3-D adhesive dots underneath to pop it up and allow room to cluster the flowers from that Chipboard Thicker set.

Overall, I have a like/dislike relationship with this layout.  It’s very busy for my taste, but I do love the burst of butterflies and clusters of embellishments.  I think if I had used a subtle paper on the border element that I would like it a lot more.

What do you think?  I’d love to hear your thoughts on this layout in the comments below or on my Facebook group.  I also have a Youtube channel where I post process videos and DIY embellishment tutorials.  Below is the process video for this rather cluttered layout!
